In our last newsletter, I shared some insight on how to incorporate Latin studies into your homeschool rhythm. This week we will talk about incorporating geography, another great subject that can easily be done as a family.
Geography is a subject that does not need to be done every day. It can be part of a weekly rotation. I like to schedule our geography lessons on the same days as our nature outings. Geography ties in easily with nature outings because on the days we have an outing planned, we learn about geography through our real experiences and encounters rather than from a book.
During a trip to the beach, a student can learn about the horizon and shape of the Earth by talking about how boats in the distance look as if they disappear. This is not because there is a sudden drop, but because our Earth is round. Once boats pass beyond the horizon, we can no longer see them.

I added a few helpful resources to the history lessons, including image suggestions and key figures in the vocabulary sections. One advantage of creating Fostering Wonder is that, as a homeschooling mother myself, I actively use the Fostering Wonder curriculum with my own children. This allows me to quickly notice when something is working well for my children but is not yet included in the curriculum. If that resource helps excite them and draw them into the lesson, then I can add it.

When a new revision is available, you will see a New revision notice in My Resources. Select Revision History to see what changed, then use the Revision dropdown to choose the current version or the version you purchased.
A gentle encouragement
If you are currently doing school or are prepping for this coming school year, don't forget to schedule geography into your weekly rotation. Ten to fifteen minutes of intentional geography once a week is enough to help your child build their vocabulary so that they can describe and understand the world they live in.
